Referrals
Who can refer for speech pathology services?
Paediatrics
The child's parent or legal guardian can make a referral. Often this will occur after speaking to another professional (e.g. paediatrician, school teacher). However, you don't need to wait. If you are concerned about your child's speech, language, or literacy skills; self-refer, and one of our Speech Pathologists will get in contact to discuss the child's profile.
Adults
An adult can self-refer, or ask a trusted person to assist them with the referral. This may be after you have spoken to another health professional (e.g. GP, specialist). Make a referral if:
- You are concerned about your language skills;
- You have noticed a change in your communication or swallowing; or
- You have recently received a diagnosis that may impact your communication or swallowing (such as Parkinson's Disease, dementia, stroke).
